What is permanent eyeliner?

It is the application of pigments via a PMU (Permanent MakeUp) machine to create a type of eyeliner. A PMU machine resembles a “pen-like” handheld device that can be equipped with various needle configurations. PMU machines may be cordless and use a lithium battery or be corded and have an AC/DC adapter. When in use, the needle(s) move in and out of the cartridge at a very fast speed while injecting the pigment into the skin. The PMU artist will choose the needle configuration (cartridge) that best suits the procedure.

There are various eyeliner styles that can be created.

The line can have a brown or black hue. It can be soft or bold; thin, medium, or thick; it can be with or without wings; it can be the length of the eyelid or halfway. You and your PMU artist will determine which style is best for you. A numbing agent is applied prior to performing the service and will/may be applied during the procedure as needed. The PMU artist will draw the line using an eyebrow pencil so that you and your PMU artist agree on the style prior to the start of the procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

We generally ask that you block a 3-hour time frame for your initial procedure with us unless otherwise stated. The 3-hour window gives us time to review your medical history, take the before photos, numb the area, draw on your eyeliner, choose the color, perform the procedure, discuss the aftercare, and take the after photo’s. Many applications will not take up the full 3 hours but we like to make sure that we are not rushed during your procedure. Touch-up procedures usually don’t need as much time. Your PMU artist will discuss this with you during your aftercare discussion

Touch-up: You will need a touch-up 6 weeks after the initial application and periodically thereafter; your PMU artist will discuss this with you when you discuss aftercare. Many things may happen during the healing process. The color may fade too much, some flaking may occur, and/or some additional detail may need to be added.

Eyelash Enhancement: Pigment is injected between the eyelashes using a PMU machine; it is NOT an eyeliner per se. This application creates the appearance of a fuller lash line. Some men may opt for this application as well as it will bring attention to their eyes WITHOUT the appearance of a line on the eyelid. The color of the pigment should be the same hue as the natural eyelash.

Thin Eyeliner (recommended): This provides a more natural or subtle look. There is a definite line without a bold look. A thin eyeliner will still make the eyes more noticeable. This style is great for women that don’t want to wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. If the woman wants a bolder appearance for special occasions she still has the option of penciling in a thicker line.

Medium Width Eyeliner: This is perfect for the woman that likes to make up their eyes every day. This look isn’t subtle and isn’t bold either.

Thick Eyeliner (not generally recommended): This is definitely a bold look and not for most people. This is for a person that likes to wear a lot of make up. Individuals should keep in mind that this type of eyeliner will not be concealed; once you have it, it’s yours.

Wings (not recommended): Wings are a trend; they come and go. Moreover, they can sag over time with the aging process … not a great look.

Color: We recommend a brown or black hue that highlights your natural coloring. Sure, some may like the idea of blue, green, purple, etc eyeliner BUT you will be stuck with that color for a very long time and therefore we do not recommend any color other than browns or black.

Important points to consider

Many clients want the eyeliner to be applied to the wet part of the bottom eyelid. We will NOT do that as it is can lead to serious consequences. This application would be dangerous.

We also will NOT tattoo to the outer edges of the lid which would appear to connect the upper and lower lids. Doing so may lead to migration (pigment spreading around the edge of the line); this could look like a bruise or an extremely unappealing smudge.

Overall, we want you to be happy with the eyeliner you choose for a long time to come.

All procedures are subject to current New Jersey sales tax.

*All procedures may require more than 1-2 visits/applications and will be discussed during the consultation and selected procedure. Pricing for more than 2 visits will be discussed and determined as needed.
